November Fishing Trip on Cook Inlet, Homer, Alaska
On November 16 we took a fishing trip on Cook Inlet. My good friend Shannon High went along, and took some of his boys. Another friend, Steph Schrock, also went along.

What could be more efficient at removing car windows than a shotgun? It worked very well.
We retired our old limo by launching it over the 300 foot high cliff at the Glacier View Car Launch, in Glacier View, Alaska! The results were amazing-if you like cars flipping end over end.
In Convoy to Alaska, I mention a family that stopped in while we had piles of salmon everywhere in our kitchen. That family was George Shirk, and they made this video of their trip. They toured Alaska and slept only in a cargo trailer pulled by their van. Our family found it very interesting, and […]
On Saturday, March 16, 2019 we had the chance to go winter King Salmon fishing. We went with Maverick Charters out of Homer. We had a great time, and caught fish! Our group caught a total of five kings. Captain Eric made sure we had a great time! For more information on Maverick Charters visit […]
Here is a video of me trying out the new dog sled. I only have a few dogs here right now, so I tested it out with Balto (our Alaskan Malamute), Iggy (purebred Siberian Husky), and Jordon (Alaskan Husky). Note that Malamutes would not be used for racing. This was just having fun with the…...
Last year I ordered a new dogsled, and it finally came! Here is a time lapse video of myself (Matt) setting it up. Perhaps I did miss my calling as a mechanic! (No, not really) A special thanks to LancasterPuppies.com for helping sponsor this video!… This content is for subscribers only.RegisterAlready a member? Log in...
My snowmachine gave out the other day, and so I attempted to load it onto my pickup truck. Unfortunately, it was to heavy for Shane and myself to lift on, so I attempted to ram it on with the four wheeler. Sadly, it never did get to the repair shop but is still sitting in […]
On the way to take my daughter Desiree out for breakfast, this nice moose walked in front of us. I did my best to communicate with the moose, but my messages didn’t seem to register.
Andy Stoltzfus shows how you can make quick work of a salmon, being able to fillet one in 60 seconds or less. This is a valuable skill at the peak of the salmon run!
A short portion of this is included in our second (2018) travelogue. However people have asked for more and longer video of this part so here it is. Viewers may notice Andy throwing fish back in the stream, that is because they are pinks. Only reds are allowed to be dipnetted at this location, which […]
This is a short three minute video of an overnight canoe trip last fall. Marv Hostetler and his boys, Braydon, Brett, Grant, and Matt and Shane Snader went on the trip. The trip took place on a 20 mile stretch of the Swanson River, in the northern part of Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. The highlight of […]
In January of 2019 the Snader family took a trip 500 miles north to Fairbanks, to see the Northern Lights. They also attempted to find -50 below 0, which they did not accomplish. It did hit -40 though, which was pretty brisk. They also wandered around Fairbanks and North Pole, sampling some of the local…...

Christmastime always makes me think about muzzleloaders. Not the flimsy, stupid excuse for a muzzleloader ones, but the real flintlock deals. I personally think so called “inline muzzleloaders” are humanities cruel joke. If aliens ever land, I’m going to apologize for our planet having such miserable excuses for muzzleloaders on it. I will grudgingly admit […]
This blog is long overdue, as the events involved transpired several weeks ago. However, the combination of emotional trauma, holiday busyness, and old fashioned laziness prevented it. We made the rather questionable choice of not spending the holidays in Alaska. This poor choice was compounded by accidentally double booking the first day of Pennsylvania doe […]
Since we are on the subject of names, people may wonder where the term “Alaska Land Barons” comes from. Do we plan on owning 50,000 acres? What is a baron, anyway? Like a robber baron? First, I thought the name had a neat ring to it. But more importantly lets look at the definition for […]
